Trenching is the narrow, linear digging used to run underground lines from one point to another.
Utility trenching supports water and sewer service, electrical and low-voltage runs, gas lines, irrigation, drainage pipe, and conduit for outbuildings. The excavation itself is only part of the job — the trench also has to be backfilled and the surface restored.

What can change the scope
Length of the run, what is on the surface along the route, existing landscaping or pavement, rock or wet conditions, and how the trench needs to be restored afterward all affect the work. Sites with existing buried lines take more care and coordination.
Locating existing utilities, trench depth, bedding, and safety practices are the responsibility of the contractor performing the work in accordance with the requirements that apply in your area.
